The programme was held to mark National Science Day

School students received hands-on training at an awareness programme for popularisation of science hosted by the Environmental Sciences department of Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), Ranchi.

A total of 67 students from HH High School and Oxbridge School of Brambe attended the training in small research and development equipment and advanced instrumentation facilities on National Science Day.

The programme sponsored by the Department of Science (DST) Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology (FIST) was inaugurated by CUJ vice-chancellor Kshiti Bhusan Das in the presence of chairman, CUJ internal quality assessment cell R.K. Dey; CUJ dean of research and development S. Medhekar, CUJ dean of academic affairs Manoj Kumar; CUJ dean of school of natural resource management A. C. Pandey.

Manoj Kumar spoke about the importance of science for school students.

R.K. Dey talked about the significant role played by scientific research in the nation’s development and encouraged students to think, learn, and solve day-to-day problems with scientific interventions.

The CUJ vice-chancellor interacted with the school students and encouraged them to take up science as a career. He delivered the inaugural address and spoke about the contributions of great Indian scientists C.V. Raman, J.C. Bose, Homi J. Bhabha, Vikram Sarabhai, ‎and A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

The technical session of the programme began with Nirmali Bordoloi, and Kuldeep Bauddh, assistant professors of Environmental Sciences, CUJ; on ‘Basic apparatus and equipment used in Environmental Research’. Purabi Saikia and Bhaskar Singh, also assistant professors of Environmental Sciences, CUJ; spoke on ‘Advanced instrumentation facilities used in Environmental Research’ and hands-on training with laboratory apparatus, small equipment, and advanced research and development instrumentations.
