Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been asked to prepare projects and engage in activities based on the Gallantry Award winners.

The Veer Gatha project aims to raise awareness about the brave acts and sacrifices of the Gallantry Award winners among school students.

Gallantry Awards are handed over every Republic Day and Independence Day to show respect to the acts of bravery and sacrifice of officers, civilians and personnel of the armed forces.

The projects can be interdisciplinary and in various formats such as poems, essays, paragraphs, painting and multimedia presentations.

To ensure that students understand the sacrifices and the bravery of the awardees, the defence ministry will host face-to-face sessions with its field organisations such as the Army, Navy and Air Force where students can interact with armed forces personnel. Videos, documentaries, PowerPoint presentations and brochures will be shared with the students in the hour-long sessions to answer their queries.

The Veer Gatha project is being conducted from October 21 to November 20, 2021.

The word limit for paragraphs will be 150 words for students of Classes III to V, 300 for Classes VI to VII, 750 for Classes IX to X and 1,000 for Classes XI and XII.

Twenty-five best entries — six each from among students of Classes III to V, VI to VII and IX to X, and seven from Classes XI and XII — will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each. They will be invited to the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi on January 26, 2022.

Schools can upload one entry from each category on the MyGov portal between November 1 and November 30, 2021. The submitted entries will be evaluated by the State Council of Educational Research and Training from December 1 to December 13. The national-level evaluation will be done by a national-level committee appointed by the education ministry.

The defence ministry has underlined the need for school students to be more aware about the winners of the Gallantry Awards and be motivated by the acts of bravery.
