Lahama Das Talukdar

Lahama Das Talukdar, a class 11 student of Berhampore Lipika Memorial Girls' High School is a gifted musician. Quite surprisingly, she is a practitioner of the unique Dhrupad style of Hindustani Classical music, a genre rarely pursued in the present times. She began taking singing lessons from Pandit Falguni Mitra at the young age of 4. But the difficult gharana that she chose to pursue meant that it wasn’t till a few years ago, when she acquired significant mastery over the art form, that she was formally allowed to perform her music for an audience. Hearing her mother sing sparked her interest in and love for music, which led to her starting her training in Hindustani Classical. She continued taking online singing lessons despite the Covid 19 outbreak which truly shows her dedication to music. A family's support is also an important foundation for any success, and Lahama is blessed to have parents that support her dream and also accompany her for her lessons and practice sessions. In the last few years, she has consistently performed and received praise for her excellent skill in a number of national music competitions. She is an all-arounder with a variety of interests, a talented orator, and was also awarded first place in her school for the West Bengal Madhyamik exam. Lahama enjoys singing and wishes to pursue her calling and take Dhrupad, a dwindling musical art form, to the world.
