The Bharatanatyam dance form is considered to be an integral part of Indian culture. And to gain expertise in it requires passion, courage, endurance and the much-needed confidence to perform. This statement is justified beautifully by our very talented Agniva Biswas, a class 9 student and a CCRT Scholarship holder. At present Agniva runs his own YouTube channel where he uploads videos of different dance pieces to entertain his audiences. But Agniva’s true love lies in the performance itself. To Agniva, Bharatanatyam is an expression of Joy, Freedom and Happiness. Before every performance, the dedicated child artist spends more than half an hour doing his own makeup in meticulous detail. It is almost meditative to watch as he prepares himself for the stage. When asked what dance means to him, he is usually at a loss for words because it is something he has been doing naturally for as long as he can remember. It must be God-gifted, says Agniva’s mother, who is constantly encouraging her son’s passion.
