Top two winning teams – those from Odisha and Bihar, will now represent Eastern India in the National Science Drama Festival 2023-24

Celebrating the power of drama to make complex concepts accessible, engaging and captivating audiences of all backgrounds, the Eastern India Science Drama Competition 2023-24 was organised on 27 September 2023 at Birla Industrial & Technological Museum, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. This year’s Science Drama Competition was based on ‘Science & Technology for the Benefit of Mankind’.

For the inaugural session of the Eastern India Science Drama Competition 2023-24, Dr. Soumitra Basu, Former Professor, Department of Drama, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata had consented to be the Chief Guest. After this inaugural session, participating teams - winners of the State Science Drama Competitions from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Sikkim, Odisha and West Bengal, with students from classes VI – X, staged their Drama within the stipulated duration of 30 minutes each – live-streamed on https://www.youtube.com/birlamuseum.

With Government Secondary School, Rinchenpong, Sikkim winning hearts with their performance titled ‘Millet the Super-food of Our Life’, N. Shreya Jasmine of PM Shri Govt. Senior Secondary School, Andaman & Nicobar Islands was awarded Best Actress for her role of Nurse in ‘Andaman Nicobar Ke Dweepo Me Badhti Swasthya Suvidhayein’.

3rd Best Drama was awarded to Mahishadal Gayeswari Girls’ High School, West Bengal for their presentation ‘Muktadhara’, +2 High School Barhiya, Lakhisarai, Bihar won Prizes for Best Script Writer – Ankit Raj and 2nd Best Drama titled ‘Aakhir Kyon?’ and Dahamunda Govt. High School, Odisha took home Prizes for Best Director – Chandan Kumar Das, Best Actor – Adaitya Barik for his role of Farmer and Best Drama for their performance ‘Bachaao’.

Top two winning teams – those from Odisha and Bihar, will now represent Eastern India in the National Science Drama Festival 2023-24, due to be held during January 05-06, 2024 at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai.
