The University Grants Commission (UGC), in a notification regarding celebration of International Day of Yoga 2022 (IDY), has said the Ministry of Ayush has planned to observe the IDY-2022 at 75 iconic locations across the country for which it has circulated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
"All Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs), including the selected 75 iconic institutions, are requested to follow the SOP while organizing the IDY 2022 events on their premises, to ensure uniformity and cohesiveness with IDY-2022 celebrations across the country. The digital resources containing detailed information have been linked in the SOP. All HEIs are requested to utilize these digital resources, " said the notification.
It further adds, "It is also important to note that the schedule for the IDY-2022 event should be planned in such a way that the slot for watching the address of the Prime Minister from Mysuru Palace on June 21, 2022 from 6:40AM to 7:00AM, may be kept free. In the brief on SOPS, it was stated, "This year ,IDY-2022 on June 21, 2022 is being celebrated across the world in a grand manner, as a whole government approach, completely embedding it with the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebrations. On this year’s IDY, along with the main event which will be celebrated at Mysuru Palace, Karnataka, led by the Prime Minister, country-wide celebrations are organized at 75 iconic places (The list attached in Google Sheet url: https://tinyurl.com/4zzjs3mb ). The list includes details about the locations identified, the PM leading the event, nodal Central government ministry/department, coordinating private/other yoga institution, Central government ministry nodal officer etc.
It further states, "It will be the responsibility of the Central Government Ministries/Department to organize the event by arranging all the financial, logistics, infrastructural and human resources from their side as informed earlier by Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways’s letter to all Union Ministries. State Governments/ UT have been requested to facilitate Central Government Ministries/Department. This harmonious celebration of IDY will showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and diversity to the world."
