Summary
Institute aims to nurture entrepreneurship among students, research scholars and young faculty in the area of unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)
During the workshop, CSP Rao, director of NIT Andhra Pradesh, addressed the importance of hands-on skill development programmes in prototype development and fabrication

The National Institute of Technology Andhra Pradesh is working to nurture globally-competent core engineers through quality education, research and innovation and develop cutting edge technologies in the areas of Drone Technology.

Towards this, the institute organised a two-day skill development workshop on unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) on March 5-6, in collaboration with TiTHAN (Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation), IIT Hyderabad and OptimusLogic.

Addressing the inaugural event, CSP Rao, director, NIT Andhra Pradesh, said, “Drone Technology is growing at faster rate in view of developments in edge computing recently and has potential applications in commercial, industrial, military, defence, agriculture, etc. Many institutes and start-ups are working towards future research and development, prototyping and design testing, therefore, it becomes essential for scholars to know the basics of Drone Design looking to pursue careers in this emerging sector.”

During the workshop, Rao also addressed the importance of hands-on skill development programmes in prototype development and fabrication.

The top outcomes envisaged from this two-day training included:

  1. Awareness on current and emerging Drone Technology for various applications
  2. Enhance the skill set and identify opportunities with Drone technology
  3. Design, Integrate, Calibrate and Testing of Drone prototype models
  4. Troubleshooting in Drone Technology
  5. Drone architecture model through 3D Printing
  6. Prototype demonstration and hands-on experience

The programme was jointly organised by TiTHAN, IIT Hyderabad, and OptimusLogic in collaboration with the department of Electrical Engineering, E-Yantra Club, IEEE student branch and Centre for Research Innovation Incubation and Consultancy (CRIIC) at NIT Andhra Pradesh.

Describing the objectives of the workshop, GVV Sharma, IIT Hyderabad, said, “This workshop is intended to enhance the students’ skill set in new and emerging technologies and also to create an awareness on “Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)” applications and opportunities in future. The interdisciplinary learning approach is becoming essential to design innovative products and the students should strengthen their skills in respective core engineering and develop real-time solutions for global problems with industry collaboration.”
