NIRF Rankings 2024: Education Ministry Set to Unveil India's Top Universities Soon!

The Ministry of Education is gearing up to release the latest edition of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings, an annual exercise wherein universities and other educational institutes across India are ranked based on a set of parameters.
As per the official website, "The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions."
The NIRF was approved by the erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and launched on September 29, 2015.
5 Crucial Parameters and their Sub-Heads
1. Teaching, Learning, and Resources (Marks 100, Weightage 0.30): These parameters are related to the core activities of any place of learning.
2. Research and Professional Practices (Marks 100, Weightage 0.30): Excellence in teaching and learning is closely associated with the scholarship.
3. Graduation Outcomes (Marks 100, Weightage 0.20): This parameter forms the ultimate test of the effectiveness of the core teaching/ learning.
4. Outreach and Inclusivity (Marks 100, Weightage 0.10): The ranking framework lays special emphasis on representation of women.
5. Perception (Marks 100, Weightage 0.10): The ranking methodology gives significant importance to the perception of the institution.

NIRF Rankings Methodology
While ranking, an attempt is made to identify relevant data needed to measure the performance score under each sub-head. Only those data that are provided by the institution or are easy to obtain from third-party sources and easily verifiable are identified, making the process transparent.

Last year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras secured the top position in the overall category, followed by IISc Bangalore at second position, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi at third.
