The International Monetary Fund (IMF) – an international financial institution headquartered in Washington D.C. that has India among its 190 member countries – is inviting applications globally for its summer Fund Internship Programme (FIP) 2022.

Around 50 students from around the world will get the opportunity to do the paid internship. Candidates must apply by January 6, 2022.

The 10-12 week internship will take place between June 2022 and October 2022. The internships may commence on either June 6 or June 27, 2022. The start date will be confirmed at the time of the offer.

Summer interns hired for IMF’s FIP will be provided an insider’s view of the member-country-focused mandate and the organisation’s critical international work. Candidates will build professional networks while they apply their research and analytical skills to help explore questions of real importance for IMF’s member countries as well as global economic stability.

Eligibility criteria for FIP interns:

  • Candidates applying for the internship need to have based their studies on Monetary and International Economics, Public Finance, Financial Markets, Economics or any related field.

  • PhD students applying must be within one to two years of completing their degree in macroeconomics or a related field, be below 32 and a student at the time of the internship.

  • Master’s students applying must be completing a Master’s degree in macroeconomics or a related field and be below 28 at the commencement of the internship.

  • All candidates should have an excellent command of both written and spoken English, possess strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills.

  • All candidates must submit a completed application form, with responses to all questions, a résumé as an attachment, and a recent transcript for the university programme in which he or she is currently registered in order to be considered.

The selected interns will be working closely with an experienced IMF colleague on a current issue or research question of importance to the member countries. The results of the candidate’s work may be presented to the IMF staff at the end of the internship. Many of the interns have had their work published by the IMF as well.

All FIP participants will receive a competitive salary, a round-trip restricted economy class air travel from their university to Washington, D.C., and limited medical insurance coverage.
