The IIT Madras and the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) have launched a new portal to provide free training to applicants for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The national-level entrance examination is a doorway to IITs, IISc, and other elite universities for admission to master's level courses or PhD programmes, as well as a gateway to positions at various PSUs.

The NPTEL GATE Portal has been made freely accessible to all students in order to assist students in preparing for the GATE, with CSR funding from India's top travel technology business, Amadeus Labs Bengaluru. NPTEL is a collaborative project of IITs and IISc that offers free online certification courses.

The NPTEL website hosts the NPTEL-IIT Madras GATE preparation facility for candidates.

NPTEL hopes to provide video solutions, practice exams, and online help in accordance with the GATE syllabus through the new platform. The aspirants' preparation path would be made simpler by this facility as close to 9 to 10 lakh students will be taking the GATE next year.

IITs and IISc worked together to launch NPTEL, which offers free online certification programmes. During the opening event on August 12, 2022, V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, praised NPTEL for creating this GATE online coaching. “GATE examination tests the knowledge in fundamentals acquired by a candidate during the undergraduate education. Success in GATE enables both higher education and employment options. NPTEL is leveraging its content to guide and help candidates prepare and create a level playing field by providing equal opportunities for people to attempt the GATE exam,” he said.

Next year, the GATE examinations are expected to be taken by 9 to 10 lakh candidates. A statement from IIT Madras claims that the new GATE online coaching portal will simplify the applicants' preparation process. According to the institute, NPTEL will offer more than 2,400 courses that are aligned with the GATE syllabus and include video solutions, practice exams, and online support.
