Summary
In order to generate practical understanding of the Urdu media industry, eminent journalists are invited for guest lectures at IIMC.
The present intake in Urdu Journalism is 17, and the course is offered at the New Delhi campus only.

Students of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) have added another feather to their cap by publishing the lab journal 'Daur-e-Jadeed', from the Urdu Journalism department.

The journal was released on November 30 by the director-general of the Institute, Sanjay Dwivedi. Course director, Urdu Journalism Department, Pramod Kumar was also present.

Dwivedi said that Indian language journalism has played a significant part in the freedom movement. Urdu journalism was a pioneer in this field. Hind Samachar's founders and revolutionaries, such as Lala Lajpat Rai, gave it a new direction. He believes that Urdu media has advanced significantly since the country's independence. Urdu newspapers have grown in strength as a result of the adoption of modern technology. Today Urdu media is becoming a global identity.

Kumar added that students strive to grasp the process of reporting, editing, and designing through this lab journal. IIMC seeks to give both practical and theoretical training. Such lab journals are regularly published by the students of various departments of the institute.

In order to generate practical understanding of the Urdu media industry, some eminent journalists working in Urdu media are invited for guest lectures. For practical training the students produce lab journals. The present intake in Urdu Journalism is 17, and the course is offered at New Delhi campus only.

Afsar Ali, academic associate, Department of Urdu Journalism and members of the editorial team of Lab Journal - Sarwar Ali, Aamna Farooq, Mohammad Sameer and Munir-ul-Islam - were also present in the release ceremony.

The foundation of Urdu Journalism in IIMC was laid in the year 2013 with the introduction of a Diploma Course. After the successful initial experiments, it was converted into a Post Graduate Diploma Course in the year 2017. Like other PG Diploma courses of IIMC, it is also a one-year course. The prime objective of the course is to train the media professionals who can work as per the changing needs of the technology-driven Urdu media.
