According to university authorities, Delhi University will soon open a centre for the study of disabilities with the goal of promoting inclusion in the classroom. Speaking during a webinar, the officials announced that the centre will offer a number of courses, including computer- and skill-related ones.

“DU is starting a centre for disabilities studies under which several courses will be started. The focus of the centre will be to make education and administration more inclusive,” said Bipin Tiwari, an officer on special duty at the university’s Equal Opportunity Cell. He said the centre will provide a special focus on sign language. “We are planning to begin several computer-related and skill enhancement courses under the centre,” he said.

The aim of the webinar was to inform students of the reservation procedures in order to assist students from underrepresented groups and economically disadvantaged classes during the continuing admissions process. According to the officials, candidates in the "person with benchmark disability (PwBD)" category are also reserved for 5% of the total sanctioned strength in each programme across all DU colleges. Candidates requesting admission under the PwBD quota will be included separately on merit lists, they noted.
