The Central Universities Entrance Test 2022 has been made mandatory for students looking to pursue any undergraduate (UG) and integrated postgraduate (PG) courses at central universities.

With the start of the registration process for the newly mandated exam, Edugraph brings to you all the important information that you need to know about CUET 2022.

What is CUET?

CUET is not exactly a new examination. Earlier known as CUCET, the exam was introduced in 2010 for admission to undergraduate, integrated postgraduate and diploma/certificate courses to seven central universities. However, the Union education ministry has now made the exam mandatory for admission to central universities, including institutions like Delhi University and Visva-Bharati. In 2022, 57 central universities and other institutions will be participating in the Computer Based Test (CBT) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

CUET 2022 courses

Students can gain admission to a wide range of courses through CUET 2022. The courses to which students can gain admission through CUET are decided by the universities. Here are some of the courses offered by the universities.

  • UG courses: Bachelor of Vocational Studies (BVoc), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Education (BEd), Bachelor of Computer Application, Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Law (LLB) and Bachelor of Science (BSc).
  • Integrated PG courses: Master of Education (MEd), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Master of Commerce (MCom), Master of Architecture (March) and Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • PG diploma programmes

Important dates

  • April 6-May 6 (up to 5pm): Applications open
  • May 6 (up to 11.30 pm): Last date for online payment of exam fee
  • 4th week of June: Admit card release
  • 1st and 2nd week of July: Examinations
  • 4th week of July: Release of provisional answer key
  • 2nd week of August: Release of final answer key
  • 3rd week of August: Results

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria depend on the course and university to which the student wants to gain admission. However, here are some general criteria for admission to UG, PG and PhD programmes:

  • General candidates: Minimum 50% marks in Class XII or equivalent exam.
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates: Minimum 45% marks in Class XII or equivalent exam.

It is advised that the candidates go through the eligibility requirements of the respective university.

Application form

The application process for CUET 2022 started on April 6. Application for the examination is accepted only through the online form.

Here are the steps to complete the application process:

  • Visit the cuet.samarth.ac.in website.
  • Click on the Register button on the page.
  • Read the application instructions.
  • Click on the ‘Click here to proceed’ button at the bottom of the page.
  • Complete online registration.
  • Fill out the online application form for each of the courses the candidate wants to apply for.
  • Upload scanned images of the candidate’s photograph, signature and any other required document.
  • Pay the exam fee either online or offline.
  • Print the filled application form for future reference.

Form correction

If the applicant wants to make changes to their application or their exam centre, they need to sign in using their application number and password. Some of the details on the application form can be edited even after the application has been submitted.

Application fees

The fees for the examination can be paid both online and offline. Here is the fee structure for the exam:

  • General candidates: Rs 650
  • General Economically Weaker Section (EWS)/OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) candidates: Rs 600
  • SC/ST/ Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)/Third gender: Rs 550
  • All candidates appearing for the CUET 2022 at centres outside India: Rs 3,000

Syllabus

The subjects that candidates need to cover for CUET 2022 depend on the course they are applying for. In general, the paper will have language-specific and general knowledge questions along with subject-specific questions that the candidate would have studied for Class XII.

Exam pattern and marking scheme

Here are the details of CUET 2022 as shared by the NTA so far:

  • Mode of exam: CUET is a CBT that must be taken at assigned exam centres.
  • Medium of exam: The test will be conducted in 13 languages — English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
  • Number of slots: Candidates can choose from two slots — Slot 1 (9am-12.15pm) and Slot 2 (3pm to 6.45pm).
  • Duration of exam: The duration of Slot 1 is 195 minutes (3hours 15 minutes) while that of Slot 2 is 225 minutes (3hours 45 minutes).
  • Number of sections: The paper is divided into four sections— Section IA (Language), Section IB (other language), Section II (Domain-specific subjects) and Section III (general knowledge).
  • Question format: Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ).
  • Number of questions: Section IA and Section IB will have 50 questions each of which students have to attempt 40 from each section. Section II will have 50 questions and candidates have to answer 40. Section III will have 75 questions of which 60 need to be answered.
  • Marking scheme of exam: Candidates will be awarded 5 marks for each right answer. 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Admit card

The NTA has not shared the date for the release of CUET 2022 admit cards. Registered candidates will be able to access and download their admit cards once they are released online.

Examination centres

When filling out their application forms, candidates will get the chance to choose four examination centres. Candidates will be notified of their exam centres when they receive their admit cards. Currently, there are exam centres spread across 547 cities within India and 13 cities abroad. If less than 100 candidates enrol for any exam centre then the centre will get cancelled and the candidates will be reallotted to the nearest centre.

Answer key

The date of the release of the answer key is yet to be announced. It is estimated to be released in the third week of July. Candidates can view and raise objections once the answer key is released. Once the process is complete, the final answer key will be made available on the CUET website.

Result, cut-off and merit list

Results will be available on the CUET website after the release of the final answer key.

The cut-off and merit list will be decided by the universities. Candidates will have to visit the university or the university websites to see the merit list put up by the institution.

Counselling

Selected candidates will have to complete the counselling process at the universities. The dates and details of the process are to be shared by the respective institutions.
