The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions is set to undergo significant changes in its 2025 edition. The University Grants Commission (UGC) announced the decision following recommendations from an expert committee, aiming to enhance the examination process.
UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar informed the PTI, "Based on feedback from past years, it is also essential to continuously improve the examination process to provide a better, more efficient and conducive environment for students taking CUET. In this spirit, the UGC has constituted an expert committee to review the conduct of CUET-UG and CUET-PG for 2025."
The committee's review covered key areas such as test structure, paper duration, syllabus alignment, and operational logistics. “The commission considered these recommendations in a recent meeting," Kumar added.
The UGC plans to release a draft proposal outlining revised guidelines for CUET-UG and CUET-PG 2025. Stakeholders, including students, parents, educators, and institutions, will be invited to provide feedback and suggestions before the finalisation of the changes.
CUET’s initial editions faced challenges, including technical glitches in 2022 and logistical disruptions in 2024, when exams in Delhi were cancelled a night before their scheduled date. In response, the exam was conducted in a hybrid mode for the first time in 2024, but normalisation of scores across multiple shifts remained a concern.
The upcoming changes aim to address these issues and streamline the examination process to ensure fairness and efficiency.
