The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the scrapping of the semester system for Higher Secondary examinations. The council has termed the viral notification as “completely fake” and urged students and stakeholders not to rely on such misleading information.

The forged circular, dated April 1 and carrying the council’s name and logo, falsely claimed that the proposed semester-based examination system for the 2027 Higher Secondary batch had been withdrawn. It further stated that schools should revert to the previous annual examination pattern and continue with the old syllabus. However, a senior official of WBCHSE clarified that no such decision has been taken by the council.

The official emphasised that the notification did not originate from the council and was fabricated to create confusion among students, parents, and schools. Reiterating its stance, the council advised all stakeholders to verify updates only through official communication channels, particularly its authorised website.

Taking the issue seriously, WBCHSE has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against individuals responsible for creating and spreading the fake notice. The council stated that the circulation of such misleading documents disrupts academic clarity and can negatively impact students preparing for board examinations. Legal action is expected to follow against those involved.

Earlier, the council had announced plans to introduce a semester system for Class 12 students, with two examinations to be conducted annually. The latest clarification confirms that there has been no change to this decision, and the semester-based structure remains in place as planned.

Students and guardians have been advised to remain cautious and depend only on verified sources to avoid falling prey to misinformation regarding examination policies.
