TG Sitharam, a former director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Guwahati, takes over as head of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). M. Jagadesh Kumar, head of the University Grants Commission (UGC), handed over the control to him.
Following Anil D. Sahasrabudhe's resignation as AICTE chairman in September 2022, Kumar served as the interim chairman.
From 2019 to 2020, TG Sitharam served as the IIT Guwahati's board of governors chairman. He was moreover a member of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) at the department of science and technology, which is part of the Indian government. In order to join AICTE, he handed over the responsibilities of the IITG, making Parmeshwar K Iyer the official director of IIT Guwahati.
AICTE sent out a tweet on its official Twitter account to greet the new chairman. "We extend a warm welcome to Prof. T.G. Sitharam as he takes leadership of the @/AICTE INDIA as the new #Chairman. Mr. M Jagdesh Kumar, Chairman of @/ugc India, handed over leadership to him."
