Students must manditorily teach at least 5 non-literates, says UGC to HEIs

The University Grants Commission (UGC) recommended that all higher education institutions (HEIs) require students to instruct at least five or more non-literate individuals during each academic year. Additionally, the Commission made recommendations for how to carry out the ministry of education's New India Literacy Programme.

The National Education Policy (NEP 2020) calls for robust and creative government programmes for adult education in order to achieve the goal of obtaining 100% literacy.

Each HEI's purpose included asking qualified community members, including those from HEls, to get involved in their local communities, complete quick training courses, and volunteer as adult literacy teachers. The UGC has recommended actions for the universities to follow in order to achieve the goals of adult education. In order to achieve this goal, students can volunteer to teach 3–4 nonliterate individuals aged 15 and older each year, and suitable credits from the Credit Framework may be taken into account.

Some credits for their work may be included by HEIs. After the student under them receives a "literate" certificate, the credit may be granted. To do the tasks in accordance with NILP's criteria, students might be instructed by HEls.
