Summary
The NIRF college rankings for the year 2022 have recently been released by Ministry of Education, Government of India
The Union Education minister has announced that starting next year, schools and other higher education institutions will all be ranked under the NIRF

Every higher education institution in the country will now be rated by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), said the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while stressing on the fact that the MoE is attempting to unify institutional accreditation by  next year.

The minister added that going forward the NIRF accreditation system will expand to include every single school in India. This accreditation procedure will be mandatory. Pradhan also asserted that self declaration and transparency will be the basis of this particular assessment and accreditation.

"By next year, we will unify institutional accreditation, which is presently done by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), and the programme accreditation is presently done by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA)," said Pradhan.

"Ranking on innovation, done earlier by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), will henceforth be integrated with the NIRF. All institutions will be part of the combined system of assessment, accreditation and rankings. Such a system will be transparent and objective," said the minister.

"From next year, the NIRF ranking categories will also include innovation and entrepreneurship. The number of NIRF ranking categories can be increased according to the needs. Work is already going on on the rankings of the ITIs and polytechnics," he added.

While addressing the gathering at the launch of NIRF 2022 he mentioned that "Soon, there will be a system under which each school will also be accredited. We will take the state governments on board. Parents will know the standing of the schools where their children are being admitted."

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has been adopted by the Ministry of Education to rank higher educational institutes in India. It is highly respected and considered a major benchmarking system.
