The Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, has issued comprehensive guidelines for schools across the national capital as the 2026–27 academic session commenced this week. The directive emphasises creating an engaging, inclusive, and student-friendly environment during the initial days of the new session.
According to an official circular, teachers have been instructed to conduct interactive introductory sessions aimed at helping students—both new entrants and returning learners—adapt smoothly to their new classes and peer groups. These sessions are designed to encourage students to share their aspirations, build confidence, and foster a sense of belonging within the classroom.
The DoE has also advised teachers to actively engage with parents and guardians to better understand their expectations and update student records accordingly. Educators are expected to provide a clear overview of the syllabus, highlighting learning objectives and academic expectations for the year ahead.
A key focus of the guidelines is identifying subject-specific learning gaps among students. Teachers have been directed to assess these gaps early and implement targeted interventions to support steady academic progress. In addition, schools are encouraged to organise activities that promote peer interaction, communication skills, and overall personality development.
School heads have been tasked with ensuring all preparatory arrangements are in place. This includes finalising timetables, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring the availability of safe drinking water and proper sanitation facilities. The circular also stresses the importance of timely textbook distribution, clear signage across school premises, and the deployment of staff at entry and exit points to assist students.
Further, schools have been asked to plan their academic calendar and review the previous year’s results to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy. Equal emphasis has been placed on co-curricular and sports activities to ensure holistic development.
To monitor the implementation of these measures, district and zonal administrators have been directed to conduct regular school visits, including on the opening day. These steps aim to ensure that the new academic session begins in a structured, safe, and welcoming manner for all students.
