Jamia Millia Islamia to host a 3-day conference on entrepreneurial growth in tourism

Jamia Millia Islamia, in collaboration with the Union ministry of tourism, will organise a three-day virtual conference aimed at bringing various stakeholders on a single platform to discuss future tourism trends, ideas and methodologies for innovation and entrepreneurial growth in the hospitality industry.

The conference, sponsored by the ministry of tourism and titled ‘Enterprise and Entrepreneurialism in Tourism and Hospitality’, will be held from January 28 to January 30, the New Delhi-based university stated in a press communique. 

It will be attended by prominent authorities from the ministry of tourism, representatives of national tourism associations, academia and other stakeholders, who will share their experience with the students and other attendees.

According to the statement from Jamia Millia Islamia, the vice-chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh, S. P. Bansal will attend the conference as its chief guest. Vinod Zutshi, former secretary, ministry of tourism, will be the guest of honour for the conference, the communique further stated.

Venu Vasudevan, additional chief secretary of higher education and tourism, Kerala; Rupinder Pannu Brar, additional director general, ministry of tourism; Rajiv Mehra, president, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), and Anil K Rajput, joint secretary, Association of Domestic Tour Operators Of India (ADTOI) will also speak at the conference.

The conference will be hosted by the vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Najma Akhtar. Nazim Husain Al-Jafri, registrar and Mohd. Asaduddin, dean, Faculty of Humanities & Languages, will be the conference patrons.

“Through this international conference, Jamia Millia Islamia plans to provide a forum for researchers, educationists and practitioners in the field of entrepreneurship to exchange their research findings and experiences. It aims to attract an interesting combination of academic scholars, practitioners and individuals who are involved in various dimensions of tourism, hospitality innovation, entrepreneurship education and research,” the varsity said in a statement. 

The event intends to initiate and engage a public discourse on the effect of COVID-19 on the tourism and hospitality industry. It will also focus on the special contributions of women in tourism and hospitality entrepreneurship, the role of higher education and innovation in the domain to enhance the efficiency of entrepreneurship and to welcome new avenues and opportunities offering solutions to the challenges it faces.

Some of the notable global thought leaders in the domain of entrepreneurship will be deliberating during the conference. The list of international speakers includes Dimitrios Buhalis from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, who is the editor-in-chief of the journal ‘Tourism Review’; Konstantinos Andriotis, from the Middlesex University, London, United Kingdom; Vanessa Ratten, associate professor, Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Marketing, La Trobe University, Australia; Stephen Pratt, The University of the South Pacific, Fiji, and Tracy Harkison, associate professor, Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand.

The conference will have panel discussions, technical tracks, keynote sessions and workshops, making it highly interactive and relevant for the industry and the academia.
