Huawei and Asean Foundation sign agreement to enhance India’s digital landscape

Asean Foundation and the Chinese telecom gear company Huawei held the Asia-Pacific Innovation Day- Digital Talent Summit 2021 on November 3 where the two organisations signed an agreement intending to bridge the digital talent gap in the Asia Pacific scenario.

Huawei has been conducting various learning programmes in India. The ‘Seeds for the Future’, a flagship Computer and Information Technology (ICT) training programme will facilitate engineering students to gain valuable knowledge of futuristic technology. It is going to be launched in early 2022.

Huawei India’s CEO David Li stated, “As a global ICT leader, Huawei over its 20-year presence in India has been committed to helping shape the country’s digital talent landscape, focusing on building basic education infrastructure, driving skilling programs, and leveraging global training competitions to build a future-ready talent.”

At the summit, Huawei has claimed to have more than 30,000 certified ICT professionals under its name in India. It has also said that more than 50,000 students across 100 Indian schools have benefitted from Huawei’s support contributing to the digital infrastructure.

“Aiming to equip the underprivileged rural youth in joining India’s ICT economy, the Huawei Telecom Skill Development Center launched in 2019 has since trained 500 youth in industry-related skills. We are proud of our legacy and work in India and are committed to continuing working with the larger ecosystem to drive future digital initiatives,” added Li. 

Various policymakers, industry experts and researchers participated in the summit to exchange ideas and solutions to strengthen the digital talent sphere of the Asia Pacific region. 

The executive director of ASEAN Foundation Yang Mee Eng and vice president of Huawei Indonesia Albert Yang were present at the summit.

The significance of digital talent for sustainable development was focused on during the virtual roundtable discussion among speakers from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Maxis.

Huawei’s 2022 Asia Pacific Digital Talent Insights were also presented at the summit. The white paper presented by the senior consultant for National Digital Talent Development, Alex Lee, showcased the company’s journey and work towards the betterment of digital talent in the Asia Pacific.
