Delhi University Decides UGC NET Scores to Determine Eligibility for PhD Admissions 2024

The NET score will remain valid for one year for PhD admissions.

In a significant update for aspiring doctoral candidates, the University of Delhi has announced that from the 2024-25 academic session, admissions to its PhD programmes will be primarily based on the National Eligibility Test (NET) scores. 

The UGC NET score will account for 70% of the admission criteria, while the interview will contribute the remaining 30%.The university also stated that it might conduct a separate PhD entrance examination for disciplines not covered by the UGC NET, such as engineering, Portuguese, and Italian. The NET score will remain valid for one year for PhD admissions.

On March 27, the University Grants Commission (UGC) confirmed that universities could use the UGC NET scores to grant PhD admissions, following recommendations from an expert committee. Accordingly, Delhi University will adhere to this policy for the upcoming academic session.

Following this policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have also decided to use the NTA NET scores for PhD admissions.
