The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is looking forward to return to its pre-covid regulations. With human life returning back to normalcy, the board has made a decision to switch to the pre pandemic format of examinations for the coming academic year. This decision would mean that from now onwards, the CBSE class 10th, 12th board exams will be held only once a year, as it used to happen before the pandemic.

According to the statements from the Controller of Examinations, Sanyam Bhardwaj, the board will apply 20% internal assessment to every subject, including the ones that do not have any practicals. This is the same system that was followed back in the year 2019.

Previously, in 2019, the Board had decided to increase competency-based questions by 10% each year, progressively. Therefore, in 2020 it had been raised to 20% for class 10 and 10% for class 12. In 2021 the board was unable to implement this standard due to board exam failures. However, in 2022, proficiency-based problems saw a 30% increase in class 10 and a 20% increase in class 12.
By 2023, it will increase to 40% in class 10 and 30% in class 12. The goal is to have 50% ability-based questions in both classes by 2025. This decision was made in response to NEP 2020 and to ensure a shift from memorisation to a more critical and analytical learning system.

The board is considering the need to grant a wider range of questions during the exam. The proctor shared that the exam board had decided to include 33% more choices in exam questions, as it would help reduce stress among students.
Sanyam Bhardwaj further stated, "Since these exams are not for professional courses but a part of the schooling system, it was decided in 2019, to provide 33% more choices. Also, in school assessments, not just students’ knowledge but also their writing, analytical, and thinking skills etc. are to be assessed. This would give students a chance to perform better, while bringing down their anxiety levels.”
CBSE Board Exam 2023 Date
The board recently announced that the 2023 CBSE exam will begin on February 15, 2023. The exam date was announced to disperse the cloud of uncertainty among students and get academic sessions back on track, like they were in the pre-pandemic era. “Till 2018, the exam used to be conducted on the first working day of March, but since it takes a minimum of 45 days to conduct the examinations of about 114 subjects of Class XII and 75 subjects of Class X, and thereafter 45 days to declare the results, students would not be privy to their performance before June as exams did not end before April.” Sanyam Bhardwaj said.
