The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced a One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) plan under which everyone in India would have free access to national and international journal articles and research papers starting on 1 April 2023.

The ONOS project will benefit all citizens of the country, not simply students at schools, colleges, universities, and research facilities. The Office of Scientific Adviser to the Government of India is responsible for this programme.

The Planning and Execution Committee (PEC) nominated resources from 70 publishers, and the core committee is considering them for the first phase of ONOS.

The ONOS intends to sign national licences with the majority of well-known STEM publishers and database producers of the world whose contents are already being subscribed by numerous institutions of higher education and research organisations either directly or through government-funded consortia, according to a statement from the education ministry.
