Vidishaa Mundhra
Skater
Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata
When asked how she was introduced to skating, Vidishaa narrates an all too familiar anecdote about being enrolled on several different extra-curricular activities as a child. Then as she goes on to talk about how roller skating piqued her interest initially and later became a passion, one can clearly discern the joy that the sport brings to her. Vidishaa Mundhra started skating at the age of six, but it wasn’t until 2018 that she participated in her first proper skating competition, representing her school in the CBSE Zonal Competition. This was the very first time her school was participating in skating, and Vidishaa went on to win a silver and a bronze medal. She says the experience made her realise her true potential and hence started her journey to becoming a better speed skater. She is currently the fastest skater in West Bengal in the ‘11-14 Inline Girls’ category and has won 3 gold and 1 bronze medal in the Roller Skating Association of West Bengal Roller Skates championship 2021. She goes on to say that skating gave her a purpose in life and her ultimate goal is to be a part of the Indian team and represent the country internationally. Vidishaa is a very focused 14-year-old, putting in many hours into training. Her normal schedule features two sessions a day, but in the run-up to competitions, she can usually be found skating for up to three sessions a day, interspersed with freehand exercise. While Vidishaa considers skating to be a very important part of her life, she is also equally attentive to her studies. With the support of her school, her teachers and her peers, she has expertly balanced both skating and academics, consistently worked hard, taking step after step towards her goal.
