Sinjini Mukherjee

Sinjini Mukherjee is all of 15 years old and has been playing golf since she was 6. She is currently a top-ranked Junior Golfer in Eastern India, a feat achieved after rigorous training. Sinjini spends a major part of her day on the golf course and is home-schooled. She studies on her own and appears for his examinations through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Sinjini’s first brush with golf came through her father, who had always admired the sport and wanted his daughter to have an opportunity not too many youngsters get. For little Sinjini, the thing that filled her with most wonder was how precise the game of golf was. In her own words, the fact that players would be getting the ball into a small hole from precisely 436 yards away intrigued her. As she slowly started to train, her interest and confidence started growing. She went on to play in The US Kids Golf World Championship, held in Pinehurst, NC, an opportunity like none other. She has a number of national and state-level tournaments under her belt. When she had first started playing, there were very few girls playing golf in Bengal and she soon became one of the best young players from the state. It was only when she competed at the national level that she found far more female golfers and much better competition too. Sinjini has her heart firmly set on playing golf professionally and one day competing in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the Olympics. In addition to playing herself, she also dreams of creating a foundation that can help children from underprivileged backgrounds, or those children who have been abandoned, to realise their dreams, particularly in the world of golf. She wants to bring to them the same opportunities that she has had.
