Ram Daftari

According to Ram, the most difficult quiz question he has ever answered was about a painting made by someone who was not known for painting. With very little information to go on, and just from piecing together the few clues, his team was able to deduce that the answer was Hitler. This beautifully demonstrates Ram’s love for the art of deduction – of connecting all the dots and finally arriving at the answer. Ram Daftari is 15 years old and a quizzer and debater from Kolkata. Ram has participated in more than 55 quiz contests and has won first prize in the German Quiz Competition at the Namaste Europe 2020 fest, and the Jarr Your Brilliance Quiz League 2020 where he competed with 76 schools from across India and the Gulf. Ram was also chosen as one of the global top 25 in the Scholarly Junior Quiz Championship 2020. But if you think that’s how he started with quizzing, you’d be very wrong. An anecdote about the very first quiz he participated in when he was in Class 2, where he didn’t even make it past the qualifier round, is enough to show us what a long way he has come. Besides quizzing, he is also an avid debater. He believes that debates can be a great learning experience, piquing the interest and starting one off on new journeys of exploration. He is particularly fond of debates where the motion is left deliberately ambiguous as they give him opportunities to think out of the box. As a practice, before appearing for any debate, he prepares both sides of the argument so that he is able to anticipate the opposition and have his counterarguments ready. A confidant and logical young man, Ram has firmly situated himself on the quizzing and debating map and continues to win competitions nationally.
