Mahee Singh

Mahee Singh’s introduction to horse riding came at the young age of four. Her family had just made a move from Delhi to Kolkata, and her parents were looking for an activity they could all do together. Horse-riding, she says, had seemed like a good option, and soon they went to visit a friend’s stable. Mahee remembers walking around the stable, interacting with the horses and loving it on her very first day. Mahee Singh started riding at a very young age and has gone on to make a mark in equestrian sports, winning the first spot in Confined Riding in West Bengal Equestrian Association’s State Level Championship 2019 and also in the Teenage Confined category at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Equestrian Meet 2019. Mahee competed primarily in show jumping and dressage and has also competed at the Haras de Bel Air Competition in Tours-Pernay, France. She recounts not understanding the language, and yet enjoying it. A typical day in her life involves two practice sessions at different stables. When asked about the bond between a rider and a horse, she says it is a very special one and one she shares with both the horses she regularly rides. She says the relationship is one of trust, of understanding. But interestingly, she also compares a horse to a confidant of sorts. Mahee tells us about times in her life when she has been overwhelmed and has been able to share her troubles with her horse – secure in the knowledge that the horse gets her and also will keep her secret. While Mahee continues to pursue equestrian sports, she is also dedicated to her studies. She is greatly supported by both her parents as well as her school. A confidant 16-year-old, Mahee Singh is ready to conquer the world of equestrian sports.
