Avigyan Kishor Das

Necessity is the mother of invention. Even before Avigyan knew about this well-known adage, he realised that his calling was to solve problems. While reading Juta Abishkar by Rabindranath Tagore, it occurred to him that any situation can be remedied if you find a way out of it. And hence started his journey of being a tech innovator. What’s more, Avigyan is a 15-year-old who already has more than one invention which is getting patented. Avigyan’s achievements in science have been featured in NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM). He was awarded first prize at the 6th India International Science Festival 2020, organised by the ministries of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences. Avigyan was also a Mega Winner at Sony BBC Earth’s Young Earth Champions contest for inventing an innovative device that can curb industrial and automobile pollution, bringing both down to absolute zero. When Covid struck, Avigyan found himself stuck at home like many other kids of his age. The raging pandemic brought concerns, fears, but above all, the need to contribute in some way. And Avigyan came up with a portable, low-cost self-dispensing public sanitizing system, both manual and electronic, which is also being patented. But it would be wrong to think that his interest only lies in tech innovations. In 2021, his dramatic documentary, “Adhunik Bharoter Sushruta – Pandit Madhusudan Gupta” was screened and nominated for an award at the 7th International Science Film Festival held in Panjim, Goa. When asked about the documentary, he tells us that it was another way for him to explore his horizons while being homebound during the pandemic. When he chanced upon the idea of creating a documentary, he chose a lesser-known personality closer home. Avigyan wants to be remembered in much the same way – for his contributions to his chosen field.
