Anushri Modi
Swimmer
La Martiniere For Girls , Kolkata
Anushri Modi has loved swimming from the very first time she entered the pool at the age of 8. Her first brush with swimming came from accompanying her brother to the pool for his classes. Soon after, her mother decided to enrol her in the class as well. The very first time she was put in the water, unlike most other kids, she showed absolutely no fear. In fact, within a few months of training, she was put into advanced level coaching in her club and thus started her journey in competitive swimming. Anushri has been participating at the school, district and state-level events, and has won enough medals and accolades to have an entire wall in her house dedicated to her trophies and medals. She mainly competes in long-distance events and her favourite strokes are freestyle and the butterfly stroke. For Anushri though, swimming is one part of her life. While she wants to continue swimming competitively, she also has other aspirations. She is currently a senior prefect in her school and has secured a place in a prestigious private liberal arts college in the US. While at college wants to continue swimming for the university team along with pursuing studies in Computer Science and Economics. Prior to the pandemic, Anushri’s schedule involved two swimming sessions in a day – once in the morning before school and then again in the evening. However, the lockdown meant that she had to go almost two years without getting into the water. While this was in many ways a difficult time for a swimmer, Anushri continued to engage in workout sessions at home to keep up her physical fitness and stamina. This resourceful 17-year-old has also hosted multiple Zoom sessions for her juniors from the swimming club, motivating and supporting them during this time.
