The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) will standardise the local exam fee that will be charged directly by them from 2026 at “a uniform rate”.

It replaces the “current practice of schools charging varied rates”, the council said in a circular to schools sent on Monday evening. The fees will cover all exam expenses, such as remuneration to examination functionaries, stationery, and transportation costs.

The revised fee would be ₹4,350 per candidate for ICSE (Class X) and ₹5,450 per candidate for ISC (Class XII).

“The fee will include all local expenses and schools will no longer be permitted
to collect additional fees for the conduct of exams,” the council said.

The council since 2017 has charged ₹1,500 per candidate for “printing, distribution
and evaluation of exam materials”.

In addition to this, until now, schools would charge a local centre fee that would vary in different schools and zones, principals said.
