Union sports and youth affairs minister Anurag Singh Thakur has called upon students to socialise and build more contacts in a bid to grow their network – a practice that would help them learn new skills and stay updated about the latest developments in business and career opportunities.

“Your network is your net worth,” Thakur said while addressing students and sportspersons of Banaras Hindu University at the Department of Physical Education on March 3.

Asking students to make the most of the time they spend in educational institutions by working on their physical, mental and academic growth, Thakur reminded them not to confine themselves to classrooms.

He asked students to put in all their efforts in achieving the targets they set for themselves in life and career, which in turn would guarantee them success.

Paying tribute to founder of Banaras Hindu University, Bharat Ratna awardee Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the Union minister said that Malaviya’s vision translated into a great institution like BHU which has been contributing in nation building for decades.

Highlighting the importance of physical education and fitness in life, Thakur said that the government has launched campaigns like Fit India movement and taken several other initiatives aimed at improving physical fitness of citizens.

The role of teachers in physical education was becoming more important with every passing day amid a rise in early-age health problems, said Thakur.

“Physical education teachers can play a very important role in spreading awareness about health and lifestyle among students,” he said.

The minister also interacted with students from different departments of the university.
