West Bengal's schools and colleges have been told to close due to the extreme heatwave conditions there. According to PTI, West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the closure, stating that it will take place from Monday to Saturday next week owing to the extreme heat.

In the meantime, West Bengal's government-run and aided schools have had a successful summer break. Due to the extreme heat across the state, the summer break will now start on 2 May 2023 instead of 24 May 2023.

The West Bengal region will continue to experience heat waves during this time, according to the India Meteorological Department. The highest temperature in Kolkata reached 41 degrees Celsius.
