WBJEE 2022: How to prepare for the exam

With less than a fortnight left for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2022, it is time for revision.

Exam pattern
- Mode of exam: The exam is conducted offline and is Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)-based.
- Medium of exam: Bengali and English
- Number of papers: WBJEE consists of two papers — Paper I (Mathematics) and Paper II (Chemistry and Physics)
- Number of shifts: The exam is conducted in two shifts for the two papers
- Shift timings: Candidates have to appear for Paper I in the morning shift from 11am to 1pm. Candidates have to appear for Paper II in the afternoon shift from 2pm to 4pm
- Duration of exam: Candidates will get 2 hours for each paper, making the total time 4 hours
- Question format: Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ)
- Number of questions: The papers will consist of 75 questions in Mathematics, 40 questions in Physics and 40 questions in Chemistry
- Total marks: 200 marks
Marking scheme
The WBJEE paper has a complex marking scheme that candidates need to be aware of.
Questions for all three subjects are divided into three categories. Here are the number of questions in each category for each subject:
- Category 1: Physics 30 questions, Chemistry 30 questions, Mathematics 50 questions
- Category 2: Physics 5 questions, Chemistry 5 questions, Mathematics 15 questions
- Category 3: Physics 5 questions, Chemistry 5 questions, Mathematics 10 questions
The marking scheme for each category is different. Here is the category-wise marking scheme:
- Category 1: +1 mark per correct answer and -0.25 for every incorrect answer
- Category 2: +2 marks per correct answer and -0.50 for every incorrect answer
- Category 3: + 2 marks per correct answer and no negative marking for incorrect answers
Syllabus
The WBJEE examination tests the subject knowledge that candidates gain in their Class XI and Class XII. The subject-wise syllabus for WBJEE 2022 has been released with the information brochure of the examination. Here is a list of all the topics that have been listed on the syllabus for the WBJEE 2022:
Mathematics:
- Algebra: Arithmetic progression (AP), harmonic progression (HP) & geometric progression (GP); logarithms; complex numbers; polynomial equation; permutation & combination; principle of mathematical induction; binomial theorem; matrices; sets, relations & mappings; relation & its properties and statistics and probability.
- Trigonometry: Trigonometric functions; addition & subtraction formulae; formulae involving multiple & submultiple angles; general solution of trigonometric equations; properties of triangles and inverse trigonometric functions & their properties.
- Coordinate Geometry of two dimensions and three dimensions
- Calculus: Differential calculus; Rolle's Theorem and Lagrange's Mean Value theorem; integral calculus; definite integral as a limit of a sum with equal subdivisions; differential equations; application of calculus and vectors
