The University Grants Commission (UGC) will now address all the grievances of the students teaching/non-teaching staff through a grievance centralised portal ‘e-Samadhan’, launching next week. From non-refund of fees to violating admission guidelines, all such grievances will be monitored.

Talking about the grievance portal, Chairman of UGC M Jagadesh Kumar said, “UGC provided various mechanisms. Because of non-availability of a single-window system, the stakeholders were lodging multiple complaints/grievances at various places. Owing to that the redressal mechanism was working at a slow pace, which was also causing further concerns to the stakeholders.” Comprising of 1,043 universities, 42,343 colleges, 3.85 crore students and 15.03 lakh teachers, it is important that the commission resolves issues and troubles faced by the stakeholders, particularly the students.

The Commission has come up with a time-bound redressal process to address the issues, which will solve student-related issues in a matter of 10 days, and will also prevent use of unfair means or defer unfair practices in the higher education institutions (HEIs).

According to the Commission, with the starting of fresh admissions, a lot students have already secured seats in the universities and colleges out of the boundary of CUET- UG and also there are students that will withdraw their positions once the medical, engineering and CUET-based admissions commence, this portal will be of much benefit to them. A new guideline of UGC states that if a student withdraws its admission from a college or university by the end of October 31, then he/she will have the full right to get refund of fees along with all the documents submitted to the concerned institution at the time of admission.
