The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 10 and class 12 exams concluded on March 13 and April 2, 2024, respectively. Now students are eagerly awaiting their results. However, while this year’s results can be expected to be published in May, aligned with tradition, it is important to cast a glance at the previous year’s passing percentages.
Last year in 2023, CBSE announced the class 10 results on May 12, reporting a pass percentage of 93.12%. However, this marked a slight decrease from the previous year by 1.28 percentage points. Similarly, the class 12 pass percentage stood at 87.33%, reflecting a downward trend compared to the preceding year.
The dip in pass percentages for both classes from 2021-22 to 2022-23 has been a notable trend. For class 12, there was a significant decline of 5.38%, while for class 10, the pass percentage decreased by 1.28%.
In a significant shift, the board abolished the practice of categorising students into first, second and third divisions based on scores from the 2022-23 academic year. Instead, merit certificates are now awarded to the top 0.1% of students with the highest marks in various subjects.
