The Assam Government on Friday announced that a notification will be issued for conducting regular examinations for students of Classes 5 and 8 at the end of every academic year, and if any student fails the exam, he/she will be given additional instructions till a special re-examination is held.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said in a tweet, "The Assam Cabinet has today approved the decision to hold regular examinations in Class V and Class VIII at the end of every academic year and to hold back a student if he/she fails in the exam.”

The Minister also added, "Unsuccessful students will be given the opportunity to sit for re-examination within a period of two months. From now onwards, schools are allowed to hold back a student if he or she fails in the re-examination."

Meanwhile, the Delhi government also announced the same. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said it is mandatory for students of Classes 5 and 8 to clear their annual examinations. He further said the ‘no detention policy’ was very progressive but the education system could not take its full advantage due to a lack of preparation.
