DBMS College of Education, Jamshedpur, and Indian Council of Women Philosophers hosted a two-day inter-disciplinary seminar on ‘Tribal culture and social mobility’ at the DBMS College auditorium in Kadma.

The president of the Indian Philosophical Council, Ramesh Chandra, spoke about Indian philosophy and how it is the work done by an individual that is important, not the individual.

Sanjeev Anand, public information officer of Kolhan University, Chaibasa, threw light on tribal culture and social mobility and appreciated the effort to hold a seminar on the subject.

Rajkumari Sinha, president of Women’s Philosophical Council, Ranchi, talked about Mahila Philosophical Council, tribal women's organisation and socialism.

Five researchers presented their work in a session presided over by Ramesh Chandra.

P Omkar, assistant professor, Mahatma Gandhi, Central University, Motihari. Threw light on tribal culture and social mobility.

Nine researchers, including Bina Kumari, Prabha Rao Singh, Reenu Kumari, Smita Kumari and Vijeta Kumari, presented their work in a session presided over by Manju Jyotsna, retired professor of Ranchi University.

Sripriya Dharmarajan, the secretary of DBMS College, congratulated the editorial board and researchers for publication and release of the souvenir.

DBMS College principal Joohi Samarpita welcomed the guests and dignitaries in her welcome address.

Students of the college presented a dance based on Kamayani by poet Jaishankar Prasad.

The sessions on Wednesday will see Manju Hembrom, acting commissioner of Jharkhand State Commission for Women; Vinita Soren, mountaineer; Suchitra Singha, bureaucrat; Surya Singh Besra, tribal writer and politician; Jiten Xavier Topno, head of urban services, Tata Steel; Ranjana Mishra, bureaucrat; Mohammed Siraj of Visva-Bharati and Kolhan University dean Mudita Chandra as panellists.
