The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, is one of the nation's most popular engineering entrance tests, and centres of examination have been inaugurated in Washington DC, Moscow and Ottawa. The move comes after the National Testing Agency (NTA) decision to venture beyond countries in West Asia and Southeast. The National Testing Agency has worked closely with the Indian embassies in arranging these centres overseas.
As per Joshi, this is the first time that JEE centres have come up in the United States, Russia, Canada, Indonesia and Mauritius. In all, there are now around 19 overseas centres, from where a total of 1,226 candidates have registered to sit for the examinations.
“Keeping in view the interests of students from the Indian diaspora, it has been decided by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to include Washington DC as an Exam City for holding JEE (Main) 2022 Examination,” read a notice released by the Indian embassy in the US.
The scores of JEE (Main) are utilised for getting admissions in undergraduate engineering programmes at Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) along with some of the centrally-funded technical institutions and state government-run institutions. The examination also tests the eligibility for JEE (Advanced).
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has also increased the number of JEE centres within India, coordinate with local authorities like police, district magistrates to set up centres in various remote areas, as per the NTA director general Vineet Joshi.
