JEE Main Exam 2025: New tie-breaking criteria put in place by NTA; Age not to be considered

The registration process for the JEE Main Session 1 exam has begun on the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA). This time the NTA has announced a change in the in the tie-breaking method to award ranking to candidates who get the same marks.

From now on, candidates' age will no longer be considered while assigning ranks to candidates with the same score. Instead, the rankings will be solely based on the students' performance in the exam. If the candidates' performances are similar, the will be awarded the same JEE Main Rank.

In the event of a tie between candidates with same score, the candidates with higher marks in mathematics will be given the higher rank. If the marks in Mathematics is also the same, higher score in Physics will be considered. This will be followed by Chemistry.

If all of the above are found to be similar, the lower ratio of attempted incorrect answers to correct answers across all subjects in the test. This will be followed by Lower ratio of attempted incorrect answers to correct answers in Mathematics, followed by Physics and Chemistry. If the tie still persists, candidates will be awarded the same rank.
