Government plans to bring a transformational change to the Indian Education System
UGC, AICTE & NCTE might be merged according to the NEP 2020

The National Education Policy 2020, which called for the creation of a Higher Education Commission of India (HECI), was introduced two years ago. The Centre is currently revising a draft of the Bill that will establish the proposed regulatory body for college- and university-level education, spanning disciplines.

At the event celebrating the completion of two years of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah shared a few words on how in a few years the country will see a massive transformational change brought about by the NEP.

According to sources, the HECI Bill is currently being modified to include NEP components, even as its primary goal remains the consolidation of the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and National Council for Teacher Education's (NCTE) operations under one roof.

The government intends to establish one interdisciplinary higher education institution "in every district or every alternate district in the country" by the year 2030, Shah stated in his remarks at the event, which was also attended by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
