Education ministry starts NMMS registration for Class 9 to 12; Know how to apply

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Scheme online registration has begun on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), scholarships.gov.in, for the academic year 2023–2024. It will be possible to register from October 1 through November 30.

The NMMS program provides scholarships to deserving students in Classes 9 through 12 who come from economically disadvantaged groups in an effort to lower the number of Class 8 dropouts and boost secondary enrollment.

According to the ministry, one lakh new scholarships are given out each year to deserving students in Class 9 and are continued or renewed for Classes 10 to 12 for those attending state government, government-aided, and local body institutions. An annual scholarship of Rs 12,000 is given to the students.

Students who qualify for the program must have parents whose combined annual income does not exceed 3,50,000. To be eligible to take the selection test for the scholarship, students must have earned at least 55% of the possible points in the Class 7 exam, or the equivalent grade. The minimum qualifying grades will be relaxed by 5% for students in the SC and ST categories.
