The petition asking for a relaxation of the requirement of a 75% score in Class 12 to be eligible for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IITs) in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 was dismissed by the Bombay High Court.
Acting Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala and Justice Sandeep Marne's division bench made the observation that it cannot intervene at this time and that the government authorities should think about and make a decision. "At this point, we are unable to interfere with the current procedure. The high court stated that the government should take into account the complaints of the students.
The high court stated that students who received more than 75% in Class 12 will be affected by the easing of the JEE Main eligibility requirements when it heard the petition on May 2. "We recognise the challenges, but we also need to take into account our own constraints when it comes to a nationwide exam. Releasing you will have an impact on other students with scores higher than 75%".
The petitioners contended that even if they passed JEE Advanced 2023, the 75% eligibility requirement would prevent them from applying for admission due to their lower scores.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced booklet, which was released this year, states that applicants must have received at least a 75% in their Class 12 board exams. According to the public interest litigation (PIL) brought by activist Anubha Sahai, the qualifying requirement of 75% did not apply prior to last year. It was stated that thousands of students may be impacted by this sudden change in eligibility.
