The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) recently announced that its BSc in Programming and Data Science will have an option for a four-year BS Degree in Data Science and Programming due to "strong demand from the students." Students may do an 8-month apprenticeship or a project with businesses or research organisations as part of their BS degree.
According to IIT Madras, this programme is designed to offer students entry and exit choices, allowing them to obtain a certificate, diploma, or degree. Because of this, students have more freedom and can decide for themselves what they want to get out of the curriculum.
Over 13,000 students are currently enrolled in the programme, with the majority coming from Tamil Nadu, followed by Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. India has 116 examination centres spread over 111 locations that provide in-person examinations. Additionally, examination centres have opened in Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
Students who are already enrolled in class XII are also eligible to apply and be accepted into the programme. They can start the programme after successfully completing class XII. There are also no limitations so far as streams and age are concerned. Anyone who has completed Class X and has studied both English and mathematics is qualified to apply. Additionally, there is no regional restriction because the classes are online.
Students that study data science will learn how to handle data, interpret patterns to get managerial insights, model uncertainties, and create models that help make projections that help in making wise business decisions. The students receive a lot of hands-on instruction and experiential learning, which prepares them to meet industry standards. Students who have finished the diploma level of the programme can also take advantage of the internships and job placement assistance from IIT Madras. The last date to apply is 19 August 2022 for the term starting in September 2022.
