A special Women Alumni Award introduced this year

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad celebrated its second Alumni Day in blended mode on November 28. A special Women Alumni Excellence Award was announced this year to encourage the women alumni of IIT Hyderabad.

The award ceremony was started last year to connect with alumni of IIT Hyderabad. The institute has created a database of about 2,900 alumni out of a total of 4,000. The institute has urged all alumni to come forward and create job opportunities for the current students who pass out from IIT Hyderabad.

Anindita Ghosh, PhD, Department of Liberal Arts (2018), won the Academic Excellence Award. Rini Chowdhury, MSc, Department of Chemistry (2016), was awarded the special Women Alumni Excellence Award. Mahendra Kumar Pal, MTech, Department of Civil Engineering (2012), was awarded the Excellence in Alumni Relations award and Shabaz Basheer Patel, BTech, Department of Electrical Engineering (2013), won the award for Excellence in Technological Innovations.

“We need to improve our alumni connect. Alumni are brand ambassadors of the institute.  There is an enormous need for job creation in the country and hence I appeal to all of you to take Startup as a career option,” said B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, chairman of the board of governors at IIT Hyderabad and founder chairman of Cyient Ltd.

Reddy donated Rs 25 lakh to IIT Hyderabad for converting a few classrooms into hybrid and smart classrooms.

IIT Hyderabad director B.S. Murthy addressed the audience. “Nothing should stop us. Even during the pandemic, IIT Hyderabad stood firm and came up with a wide variety of products and technologies to fight the deadly virus. We have brought in a lot of academic innovations and attempted to improve our industry connection in the last two years. Dreams should be as colourful as possible. Let’s together work hard to realise the dreams of IIT Hyderabad,” he said.

Other dignitaries present at the event both virtually and physically included Ankit Singh, IIT Hyderabad US Foundation president; Sai Chandra Teja, president of IITH Alumni Association; C Krishna Mohan, dean (PCR); P Rajalakshmi, dean of students.

The awardees shared their ideas about how past students can come forward to help the institute.
