The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta will celebrate its diamond jubilee with an award ceremony for the alumni and a lecture on November 14.

The Diamond Jubilee Lecture will be delivered by Dipesh Chakrabarty, professor of History, South Asian Language and Civilisation at University of Chicago. He will speak on ‘Business Education in the Anthropocene: Some Questions for our Times’. The lecture will be followed by question-answer session.

The event will be held at the institute’s auditorium in Joka from 4.15pm onwards.

The programme will begin with a dance performance by Sharmila Biswas and her troupe. The performance will be based on the theme ‘Angahar: Exploring the Path of Indian Classical Music’.

The welcome speech will be presented by Uttam Kumar Sarkar, the director of IIM Calcutta. The dean of new initiatives and external relations, Manish Thakur will introduce the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

“The award, which is into its tenth year, was instituted during the Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2011 to recognise and felicitate alumni,” Thakur said.

A felicitation ceremony will also be organised for IIMC employees. The employees will be honoured for their exemplary contribution towards the institution and society.

Shrikrishna Kulkarni, the chairman of the board of governors at IIMC, will address the audience before the Diamond Jubilee Lecture. The vote of thanks will be presented by the dean of academics, Bhaskar Chakraborti.

The audience present in the auditorium will have to follow all COVID-appropriate protocol. No entry will be allowed without a mask. Everyone must use hand sanitisers. The seating will be arranged in keeping with social distancing norms.
