IGNOU introduces new courses on Environmental and Occupational Health in line with NEP

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced postgraduate and diploma programmes in Environmental and Occupational Health. The Masters course will be conducted through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, while the PG diploma will be delivered entirely online.

The programmes were launched in the presence of Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais on January 13. According to the official release, the programmes will be coordinated by B Rupini, Sushmitha Baskar and Ruchika Kuba from the School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies and School of Health Sciences at IGNOU. 

The last date for submitting the application without a late fee is January 31. These courses have been designed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Here’s how to apply: 

During the launch ceremony, Governor Bais stated, “These programmes are in line with the mission of Environmental and Occupational Health to reduce and prevent adverse effects on human health caused by environmental and occupational exposures such as chemical, biological contamination through education and research programmes.”

He added, “The programme will revolve around providing theoretical understanding and transferable skills to the general public and industrial workers in particular.”  

Andhra Pradesh education minister A Suresh, who was present for the launch, added that these courses are of utmost importance for global environmental health as they would help in creating awareness and increase knowledge in the domain.  

Speaking of IGNOU’s purpose and reach, the open university’s vice-chancellor, Nageshwar Rao, said, “Today, IGNOU serves the educational aspirations of over 3.6 million students in India and other countries through 21 Schools of Studies and a network of 67 Regional Centres, around 2,000 Learner Support Centres and 20 overseas institutions.”
