The ICFAI University, Jharkhand, concluded the N. J. Yasaswy Memorial National Moot Court Competition where eminent dignitaries such as Pavan Duggal, founder and chairman, International Commission on Cyber Security Law, Chandan Kumar Singh, senior prosecutor, Cyber Cell, CBI and Amit Das, senior advocate, Jharkhand High Court, were guests of honour.
Participants were welcomed to the valedictory function by O.R.S. Rao, vice-chancellor of ICFAI University, whose address talked about the Moot Court being an important pedagogical tool for providing hands-on advocacy skills to the law students to groom them into successful legal professionals. “All the teams performed well and the competition was so intense that the difference between the winning team and the others was thin,” he said.
Duggal, who is considered to be among the top ten cyber law experts in the world, said, “Cyber Security Technology is moving so fast that it is difficult to keep pace with the cyber criminals. Cyber Law is emerging as a distinct discipline, covering a gamut of aspects of the digital ecosystem of the cyber world, which includes Cyber Security, Digital Payments and Social Media. Considering that we are all part of the digital ecosystem, every one of us has to be proactive and conscious of the threats involved and equip ourselves to protect ourselves.”
The panel of judges for the final round were S. Murthy and K. Syamala, both from National Law University, Ranchi, P.K. Bhattacharya, senior advocate, Dhanbad District Court, Sameer Avasarala, senior associate, Lakshmi Kumaran and Sridharan Attorney and Prashasti Priya, advocate, ICICI Bank, Mumbai.
Out of the 21 teams that participated from across India, two teams, one from SASTRA University, Thanjavur and one from Bennett University, Noida have reached the final round. The team from SASTRA University was declared the winner and the one from Bennett University the runner. The award for the best speaker of the competition went to Kiruba from SASTRA University. The award for the best memorial was given to Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad.
Arvind Kumar, registrar of the University gave the vote of thanks. The event was organised by the faculty of law, under the guidance of Alok Kumar and was anchored by Akriti Gupta, law faculty member of the ICFAI University.
