Dr. Surjendu Maity, an alumnus of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, has bagged the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Appreciation 2021 for his Ph.D. research project at IIT Guwahati.
His research project aims to focus upon the quantification of β-2-microglobulin (B2M) in human tears. The objective was to prove that it can help in detecting the growth of the dreaded eye disease, diabetic retinopathy (DR), majorly in the case of patients who suffer from diabetes mellitus. The research project was completed in collaboration with Mr. Subhradip Ghosh and Dr. Tamanna Bhuyan from IIT Guwahati and under the guidance of notable professors from the college and from Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati.
Throwing light on his research project, Dr. Surjendu said "I was quite sure that this research will prove beneficial to society and I am thankful to my mentors who have guided me to make this project successful."
Speaking about her student’s achievement, Prof. Sulagna Chatterjee, Head of the Department, Department of Chemical Engineering, Heritage Institute of Technology said, "During his college days, Surjendu had a keen interest in research and development. I wish him all the best for his future endeavors."
