The Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023 for MBBS admissions have been withdrawn by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) gave its approval for the commission to "remove and cancel with immediate effect" the rules, according to an official announcement.

The even-numbered circular, dated 12 June 2023, issuing guidelines under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023, is now "WITHDRAWN AND CANCELLED" with immediate effect. According to the official notice from NMC, this matter has been approved by the competent authority at UGMEB.

On June 12, the commission had released the MBBS course guidelines, which included the updated requirements for the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, the hiring of staff for a medical college's research facilities, the family adoption programme, the admission of students who fall under the disabled category, and the format for submitting admissions data to medical colleges.

The notice from that time stated that the new GMER guidelines had taken the place of all earlier notices and had been deemed void. It stated that "These new guidelines shall be applicable to all the admission made in a medical college's MBBS programme in the academic year 2023–24."

NMC had originally modified the minimum age requirement for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) applicants and fixed January 31 of the year of admission as the cut-off date for completion of 17 years instead of December 31 as part of the new guidelines. The commission later changed the age requirements and limited the cutoff date to December 31.

In addition, the commission has instructed the medical schools and colleges to finish the admissions process for MBBS before August 30. The National Exit Test (NExT) test, which will take the place of NEET PG, will be given in December and January of each year, according to the medical laws.
